Trains
Among many things, this city is one that fosters, thrives on and recovers from constant tragedy. From the starving artists of Greenwich village to the survivors of 9/11, the great writers, thinkers and do-ers of New York City both battle and blossom from adversity. But some are not so lucky. Some do not stare in the face of despair and turn it into wisdom. Some instead stare in the face of an oncoming train.
Around 10am this morning, I saw a bloody body under the uptown 6.
86th and Lexington was awash in nausea, panic, curiosity, disbelief.
While we think we are the most unlucky --those who have to literally and mentally pick up the pieces--we're also the ones who build greatness out of nothing, turn horror into beauty and make mortals into heroes.
At least we still have that opportunity.
Now she just exists in 3 column inches of an AM tabloid newspaper.
