Baby, it's cold outside
The first frost of New York City settled in on windshields and noses this week. In a city that's known for people with an icy exterior, I'm surprised to find the only warmth isn't coming from my decrepit steam heater in the corner. Yesterday, on my way up to the subway, I tripped on the steps. A man of about 70, with enough concern on his face to merit a blood relation, reached out to steady me. So mother will start to worry and father will be pacing the floor, but I'm pleased to find that their preconceptions (and mine) about New York City were wrong.
